Deliver High-Performing Advanced Services
The Cisco ASR 1000 Series Embedded Service Processors (ESPs) are based on an innovative new Cisco processor for next-generation forwarding and queuing in silicon. The Cisco ASR 1000 Series ESP 10 Gbps is supported on the Cisco ASR 1004 and 1006 Routers. On the Cisco ASR 1006 Router, it can be deployed in a redundant configuration.
The Cisco ASR 1000 Series ESPs are responsible for the data-plane processing tasks and all network traffic flows through them. The modules perform all baseline router packet operations, including:
- MAC classification
- Quality-of-service (QoS) classification, policing, and shaping
- Security access control lists (ACLs)
- VPNs
- Load balancing
- NetFlow
They are also responsible for advanced services such as:
- Firewall
- Network-Based Application Recognition
- Network Address Translation (NAT)
- Flexible packet matching
