The Catalyst 6500 Supervisor Engine 2 provides all of the features of the Supervisor 1A Engine and, in addition it provides an interface to the Switch Fabric Module and added features including:
- Support for Cross-bar fabric-enabled cards that scale bandwidth to 256 Gbps
- Support for Cisco Express Forwarding (CEF)-based architecture that enables distributed forwarding
- Support for video streaming applications via multicast replication in hardware
- Enhanced QoS features
