Cost-effective Backup Solution for the Network Edge
The Cisco 3G Wireless WAN (WWAN) Enhanced High-speed WAN Interface Cards (EHWICs) are an enterprise-class solution for both backup and primary applications. These cards are tightly integrated with the highly secure data, voice, video, and mobility services of award-winning Cisco ISR G2 routers.
The Cisco 3G WWAN EHWICs provide a cost-effective, rapidly deployable, reliable, and secure backup solution for remote sites and branch offices.
Theoretical limits of 21.1 Mbps on the downlink and 5.76 Mbps on the uplink for 3.7G HSPA+ Release 7 platforms. The 3G WWAN can be used as a primary link for sites with lower bandwidth requirements and for mobile applications. You can also use its data services as a cost-effective alternative when broadband services are either unavailable or costly.
The 3G WWAN EHWICs support the following 3.7G, 3.5G , 3G, and 2.5G technologies:
- EHWIC-3G-HSPA-x supports HSPA+, HSPA, UMTS, EDGE, and GPRS
- EHWIC-3G-CDMA-x supports 1xEV-DO Rev A, 1x EV-DO Rev 0, and 1xRTT
The cards automatically select the best available service based on wireless network availability in the service area. Possible applications include:
- WAN backup: Independent of the wireline infrastructure, enhances business resilience and disaster recovery preparedness
- Primary WAN connectivity: Ideal when traditional wired solutions are unavailable, infeasible, or costly
- Rapid deployments or temporary sites: Offers agility to businesses that require instant setup and frequent relocation
- Retail and telemetry: Ideal for low data volumes and high-security applications, such as bank ATMs, kiosks, gas stations, and telemetry sites
- Embedded cellular modem with native SMS and standalone GPS
