Maximize Productivity and Enhance Customer Service
In today's business world, it's a challenge to manage communications effectively while providing quality customer service. Cisco Unified Communications—an integral component of the Cisco IP Communications solution set—gives you the control to prioritize your communications quickly and conveniently, so you have more time to manage your work.

Cisco Unity™ 4.0 for the ICS 7750 Integrated Communications System—the premier unified communications solution for midmarket and enterprise-branch offices—delivers powerful unified messaging (e-mail, voice, and fax messages sent to one inbox) and intelligent voice messaging (full-featured voice mail providing advanced functionality) to improve communications, boost productivity, and enhance customer service capabilities across your organization.
Cisco Unity software for the Cisco ICS 7750 provides advanced, convergence-based communication services and integrates them with the desktop applications you use everyday. With Cisco Unity Unified Messaging, you can listen to your e-mail over the telephone, check voice messages from the Internet, and—when integrated with a supported third-party fax server—forward faxes to wherever you may be. Cisco Unity Voice Messaging features robust automated attendant functionality that includes intelligent routing, and easily customizable call screening and message notification options.
Because Cisco Unity 4.0 is integrated within the Cisco ICS 7750 chassis, it takes advantage of the inherent versatility and availability of the Cisco ICS 7750 system. Not only is Cisco Unity software for the Cisco ICS 7750 available in Cisco Unified Messaging or Cisco Voice Messaging options, it scales from 25 to 500 mailboxes and provides ample session or port levels (16-32). It also provides optional networking to other Cisco Unity locations as well as to legacy voice mail sites using Voice Profile for Internet Mail (VPIM), Audio Messaging Interchange Specification (AMIS) protocol or the Cisco Unity Bridge option.
Integration Benefits of Cisco Unity Software within the
Cisco ICS 7750The Cisco Unity application runs on a Cisco SPE 310 System Processing Engine blade within the Cisco ICS 7750 system (Figure 1). This integration allows Cisco Unity software to take advantage of the Cisco ICS 7750 system- monitoring, fault-management, and redundant-power capabilities. It also provides full interoperability with Cisco AVVID (Architecture for Voice, Video and Integrated Data) solutions. An inherent part of Cisco AVVID is the seamless interoperability between Cisco Unity software and Cisco CallManager. Because Cisco Unity 4.0 can register to multiple Cisco CallManager clusters, it can provide seamless availability in the unlikely event of a Cisco CallManager cluster failure.
Intelligent Voice Messaging
Cisco Unity 4.0 for the Cisco ICS 7750 is a powerful and intelligent voice messaging system. Individual users interact with the system in the way that is most comfortable and convenient for them. The self-enrollment process is simple—new employees can personalize their voice mailboxes and begin using Cisco Unity within minutes.
Cisco Unity 4.0 for the Cisco ICS 7750 provides full menu options to guide users through its many features and then, as they become more experienced, gives them the option to switch to brief menus for faster system navigation. Regardless of their level of comfort or expertise, context-sensitive help is only a single touchtone away.
When new messages arrive, Cisco Unity 4.0 for the ICS 7750 can announce the number, type, and priority of the messages received, the date and time they were sent, or deliver messages to another extension, mobile telephone, or remote location. When listening to your messages, you can use telephone touchtones to adjust volume control and playback speed, and forward, rewind, and pause messages. And to help colleagues and customers reach you more efficiently, you can record up to five different personal greetings. You may, for example, want a specific greeting when you are out of the office or if your line is busy.
Powerful Unified Messaging
In the past, e-mail, voice, and fax messages were delivered as separate media to different locations. The telephone provided the sole means for accessing voice messages and then could only play messages back in the order received. Faxes had to be manually retrieved from the nearest fax machine.
Cisco Unity 4.0 for the Cisco ICS 7750 integrates seamlessly with your Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes e-mail client to make handling all your messages—e-mail, voice, and fax—easy and convenient, whether you are in the office or on the road. Cisco Unity 4.0 integrates with either Microsoft Exchange 5.5, Exchange 2000 or Lotus Domino. An intuitively designed interface makes it easy to access e-mail, voice, and fax messages from your desktop PC. Icons provide simple visual descriptions of each message type and because every message is delivered to one inbox, you can see the number, type, and status of all your communications at a single glance (Figure 2). You may also reply to, forward, and save your messages—regardless of media type—in public or personal Microsoft Exchange/Outlook folders or Lotus Notes with just a click of the mouse.
With Cisco Unity 4.0 text-to-speech capability, you get information about all your messages—and even hear the text portion of e-mail messages—over the telephone. You can then respond with a voice message and, depending on your fax server's capabilities, print e-mail, attachments, and incoming faxes on a nearby fax machine.

Visual Messaging Interface
Cisco Unity 4.0 for the Cisco ICS 7750 Visual Messaging Interface (VMI) is a browser-based message-access console that provides a dedicated voice mail inbox to deliver a subset of unified messaging capabilities to non-Exchange users and organizations with mixed groupware or e-mail client environments. With VMI, you can receive notification of new voice mail messages right in your e-mail inbox .
Message notification provides an HTML link that you can click on to automatically launch the VMI message-access console, enabling you to play voice messages in WAV file format
Personal Web Administration
Cisco Unity 4.0 for the Cisco ICS 7750 gives subscribers the ability to customize personal settings from Internet Explorer 5.5 or later using ActiveAssistant, a dynamic browser-based interface (Figure 4). ActiveAssistant reduces the workload for system administrators and gives subscribers additional flexibility to customize their personal settings to suit changing demands in their work environment. Subscribers can quickly and easily establish or change personal settings such as their voice mail options, security code, personal distribution lists, and message delivery options. For ease of administration and security reasons, the system administrator decides which features individual subscribers or members of classes of service can access.

Localization for International Customers
Cisco Unity Unified Messaging for the Cisco ICS 7750 is localized to meet the needs of customers worldwide. Localized versions are available in multiple languages, including Brazilian, Portuguese, Danish, Dutch, four dialects of English (Australian, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and United States), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, two dialects of Chinese (Mainland Mandarin and Taiwan Mandarin), Norwegian, two dialects of Spanish (Colombian and European), and Swedish. In addition, depending on the language, these versions feature everything from system prompts and subscriber conversation to the browser-based administration consoles and product documentation in the language of your choice.
Networking Capability
Cisco Unity 4.0 offers an optional digital networking module that enables the system to connect to other Cisco Unity servers at the same site via the LAN, or remote sites using a WAN or the Internet. Digital networking makes communicating with coworkers at remote locations fast and efficient by giving you the ability to send subscriber-to-subscriber messages anywhere in the world.
With the digital networking option, you can use the global addressing feature—listing all system subscribers in a central directory—to quickly and conveniently send a message to a coworker in another time zone. Subscriber-to-subscriber messages offer more reply options to the recipient, making it simpler to respond to an e-mail with a voice message, for example. Also, when retrieving messages over the telephone, voice mail from system subscribers is played with the sender's recorded name for greater recognition.
A powerful message networking option available with Cisco Unity 4.0 for the Cisco ICS 7750 is the Cisco Unity Bridge. With Cisco Unity Bridge, you can send subscriber-to-subscriber messages to anyone in your organization who resides on a time-division-multiplexing (TDM)-based Avaya or Octel voice mail system supporting Octel Analog Networking. In addition, you have the added capability to simply "reply to" to a networked message with a single touchtone key. With Cisco Unity Bridge, users maintain advanced messaging capabilities on both systems as they migrate to Cisco Unity 4.0.
Cisco Unity 4.0 for the ICS 7750 also provides an optional AMIS-A networking module and VPIM option that allows message interchange between disparate messaging systems that also support this industry standard messaging protocol. With AMIS-A or VPIM, customers who are migrating to Cisco Unity can continue to exchange messages with internal system subscribers who reside on a non-Cisco Unity messaging system, ensuring a smooth transition. (AMIS, VPIM and Unity Bridge are not supported in Lotus Domino environments.)
