The Cisco uBR914 cable data service unit (DSU) extends high speed cable connectivity to existing serial-capable routers. It provides a cable interface to all of Cisco"s access routers, allowing cable operators to expand the services they provide to their customers, as well as enabling small office and branch offices to gain access to low-cost WAN services. Investments in existing access routers are optimally leveraged since the Cisco uBR914 uses the same serial interface on the router that was previously used to connect to a channel service unit (CSU)/DSU. The Cisco uBR914 offers tremendous flexibility in providing cable WAN connectivity for any router that supports V.35, X.21, or EIA-530 serial WAN interfaces.
The DOCSIS 1.1-based architecture of the Cisco uBR914 provides the flexibility to connect with any DOCSIS-qualified cable headend and offers the quality of service (QoS) and security that business users require. When combined with other Cisco small and medium-sized business routers, the Cisco uBR914 provides users with access to advanced capabilities including high-speed VPNs, PBX-based VoIP services, and service-level agreement (SLA) support. The 19-inch rack-mount form factor includes support for the Cisco redundant power supply via an upgrade kit for added service reliability.
