STUN States

The State field shows the status of the connection between two serial tunnel (STUN) peer routers. The State field may have one of the following values:

  • dead—Trying to open, but failing (or the connection died).

  • closed—No activity.

  • opening—Trying to open and waiting for connection.

  • openwait—Trying to open and waiting for connection.

  • open—Fully connected and able to exchange STUN data.

  • direct—Direct connection between two ports in the same box. There is no need to consider a connection state between them.

Note: A STUN peer connection will only become open when there is traffic flowing across the tunnel, otherwise it will remain closed. This behavior is contrary to data-link switching (DLSw), where the peers go to connected status as soon as there is IP connectivity between them.
