EOL Product Upgrade OptionsThe recommended upgrade path for the Cisco AS5300 Voice Gateway is the Cisco AS5350 and AS5400 Series Universal Gateways. The Cisco AS5350 and AS5400 Series support all voice signaling protocols (Media Gateway Control Protocol [MGCP], Session Initiation Protocol [SIP], and H.323) and are true carrier-class gateways capable of providing high-density, high-quality voice as well as a rich set of features. In addition to providing the voice capabilities of the Cisco AS5300 Voice Gateway, the Cisco AS5350 and AS5400 Series Universal Gateways support multiple data, voice, and fax services simultaneously. EOL Frequently Asked QuestionsQ.
Why is Cisco replacing the Cisco AS5300 Voice Gateway with universal gateways?
A.
The Cisco AS5000 Universal Gateways are superior class products that will better meet the needs of Cisco customers. The Cisco AS5350, AS5400, and AS5400HPX offer many advantages over the Cisco AS5300 Voice Gateway including:
•
Up to fives times greater port density
•
Higher performance (throughput)
•
Lower latency
•
Larger Cisco IOS® Software feature set
•
More redundancy and hot-swap features
•
Lower power consumption per port
The Cisco AS5000 Universal Gateways also enable service providers to implement a powerful new network architecture called Cisco Any Service, Any Port (ASAP). Because Cisco ASAP allows service providers to offer both dial and voice at the same time and on the same network, they can generate new revenue while reducing capital investment costs.
The Cisco ASAP architecture includes all of the elements to develop unified networks that provide a combination of services such as wholesale dial, wholesale voice, unified communications, mobile wireless data, prepaid calling, and enhanced voice services.
Q.
Are the universal gateways suited for voice-only networks?
