The Cisco® 7304 Router, part of the industry-leading Cisco 7000 Series, is optimized to deliver flexible, high-performance IP and Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) services in applications such as high-end customer premises equipment (CPE), Internet gateway routers, WAN aggregations, and the service provider edge. Coupled with innovative adaptive network processing, a compact, modular form factor, and a wide range of interfaces, the Cisco 7304 Router is ideal for intelligent, multigigabit applications. Designed for high network availability and multiprotocol support, the Cisco 7304 increases its flexibility by adding support for the broad set of existing Cisco 7000 Series port adapters with the new Cisco 7304 Port Adapter Carrier Card.

The Cisco 7304 Port Adapter Carrier Card (Figure 1) combines the industry-proven Cisco 7200 and 7500 series port adapters with the performance and scalability of the Cisco 7304 Router.

Each Cisco 7304 Port Adapter Carrier Card can accept one Cisco 7200 and 7500 series WAN/LAN port adapters and with an innovative architecture adapts the port adapter so that it integrates with the Cisco 7304 advanced processing architecture. The flexible media and technology support provides a wide array of connectivity options to enable delivery of next-generation applications while providing an easy migration path for existing networks. The Cisco 7304 Port Adapter Carrier Card offers:

• Increased flexibility through a wider array of interfaces for the Cisco 7304 Router

• Flexibility for customers using Cisco 7200 Series routers to redeploy the same interfaces in the higher performance, redundant-enabled Cisco 7304 Router

• Investment protection for Cisco 7200 and 7500 series customers' interfaces

Chassis

The Cisco 7304 Port Adapter Carrier Card is supported on the Cisco 7304 chassis. Up to four Cisco 7304 Port Adapter Carrier Cards may be installed into one Cisco 7304 Router chassis.

Port Adapters

One single-wide Cisco 7200 Series or 7500 Series Port Adapter can be installed in one Cisco 7304 Port Adapter Carrier Card.

Processor Engine Support

The Cisco 7304 Port Adapter Carrier Card is supported on:
