Cisco Systems® announces the end-of-sale and end-of-life dates for the Cisco® AS5850 Route Switch Controller Card (RSC) for the Cisco AS5850 Universal Gateway. The last day to order the Cisco AS5850 RSC is July 31, 2005. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until July 31, 2010. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco AS5850 RSC. Table 2 lists the product numbers affected by this announcement.
Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco AS5850 Enhanced Route Switch Controller Card. The Cisco AS5850 Enhanced RSC supports all the features of the Cisco AS5850 RSC while offering significant advantages such as higher call-processing capacity, double memory capacity (RSC supports 512 MB and the Enhanced RSC supports 1 GB), Route Processor Redundancy Plus (RPR+), online diagnostics and health monitor, Stratum 3 clock, 802.1Q/1p VLAN/ISL, and dual redundant Fast Ethernet for management control.

PRODUCT MIGRATION OPTIONS
The recommended replacement for the Cisco AS5850 Route Switch Controller Card (RSC) is the AS5850 Enhanced RSC. Table 3 provides relevant information for migrating from the Cisco AS5850 RSC to the Cisco AS5850 Enhanced RSC. The prices for the EOL and replacement product starter kits are the same.
The Cisco AS5850 Enhanced RSC supports all the features of the Cisco AS5850 RSC while offering significant advantages such as higher call-processing capacity, double memory capacity (RSC supports 512 MB and Enhanced RSC supports 1 GB), RPR+, online diagnostics and health monitor, Stratum 3 clock, 802.1Q/1p VLAN/ISL and dual redundant Fast Ethernet for management control.
The Cisco AS5850 Enhanced RSC is supported on the Cisco AS5850 Universal Gateway starting with Cisco IOS® Software releases 12.3(2)T and 12.4M.

Customers may be able to continue to purchase the Cisco AS5850 RSC through Cisco's Authorized Refurbished Equipment program.
