"Think Inside the Box" is a worldwide developer contest that promotes innovation around the concept of the network as a platform.
What Do the Winners Get ?
- First Prize: US $50,000
- Second Prize: US $30,000
- Third Prize: US $20,000

Phase I: Proposal Submission
Register for the contest and submit a high-level proposal that illustrates your application idea. Cisco will provide you with a proposal template .
Based on weighted judging criteria, up to 10 proposals will be selected for a short list of finalists.

Duration: October 14 to February 27, 2009
|
|
Phase II: Application Development
Finalists will develop their proposed applications on the Cisco AXP platform, and will have remote access to a Simulation Lab hosted by Cisco for developing their applications.
Finalists will present their implementations to a panel of experts comprising senior-level Cisco executives along with other industry luminaries. We will select three winners based on weighted judging criteria

Schedule
- Phase I Duration: October 14, 2008 to February 27, 2009
- Phase II Duration: May 15, 2009 to August 15, 2009
Judging Criteria
Phase 1
- All submissions will be reviewed by a team of experts from Cisco and their decision is deemed final.
- All proposals will be judged on the following basis:
- Innovation (35%)
- Does the entry introduce a new, creative, innovative, unique and/or compelling new application or concept?
- Leveraging the AXP platform (35%)
- Does the application leverage the AXP platform effectively? Does it extend network capabilities?
- Feasibility (20%)
- How feasible is it to implement this proposal from both a business and a technical perspective?
- Project Plan and Documentation (10 %)
- Complete, accurate and detailed project plan, including without limitation, timelines, resource estimates, and any other components necessary to launch the proposed concept, such as a high level description of the application scope, relevance, functionality and components.
Phase 2
- All implementations will be evaluated by a panel of experts from Cisco and other reputable organizations.
- Functionality Coverage (30%)
- The implementation will be evaluated against the proposed functionality submitted in Phase I for completeness and correctness.
- Architecture (35%)
- The application design, extensibility, technical capabilities, use of Cisco AXP API, other Open Source libraries, and quality of implementation will be taken into consideration.
- Demonstration of Product Capabilities (30%)
- Judges will review the quality of the presentation, scope of implementation for integration with other networking technologies, and its potential for future business opportunities.
- Documentation (5%)
- The judging panel will review documentation of the functionality, application design, execution flow, and support hooks.
