When planning a new 10-story, 1 million-square-foot building, University Health System wanted to reduce the stress patients and visitors sometimes feel when trying to navigate a facility with many different kinds of structures. It also hoped to improve the patient and visitor experience, and optimize the rate of reimbursements from the federal government.

The Solution

UHS combined Cisco wireless access points with Cisco Connected Mobile Experiences to build a Cisco wireless network that tracks visitor location. It also hired Etelu to develop a mobile app.

Outcomes

UHS was able to deploy a mobile app in less than three months. The new navigation system made it easier for patients and visitors to find their way to a doctor’s office, lab, the cafeteria, and elsewhere in the facility. This created a better patient and visitor experience, which can be a factor in reimbursements.
