Problem Description
Modified versions of CRS-16-PRP-6G or CRS-16-PRP-12G do not boot in IOS-XR Release 4.0.3 and 4.1.0.
Background
A modified version of CRS-16-PRP-6G and CRS-16-PRP-12G has these changes:
- Sponge A ASIC changed to Sponge B ASIC
- FCRAM
Problem Symptoms
Modified versions of CRS-16-PRP-6G or CRS-16-PRP-12G does not boot in IOS-XR versions 4.0.3 and 4.1.0.

Workaround/Solution
Mandatory Software Maintenance Upgrades (SMU) are required for CRS-16-PRP-6G or CRS-16-PRP-12G for IOS XR Release 4.0.3/4.1.0.
Support for the modified hardware versions of CRS-16-PRP-6G and CRS-16-PRP-12G has been integrated in IOS XR Release 4.0.4, 4.1.1 and 4.2.0.
Recommendations
For customers running the IOS XR Releases 4.0.3 and 4.1.0, ensure the mandatory SMUs are installed and activated.
With your cisco.com userid, go to the Software Download page for CRS and select the CRS's Product type and IOS-XR version. Refer to this table to help you make your selection for the SMU.
