Problem Description
Starting on December 3, 2010 the CS-MARS software will migrate to a new download location on Cisco.com. Customers who are running CS-MARS software releases 6.0.1 to 6.0.3 and making use of the following features will be impacted:
Customers running CS-MARS 6.0.4 or later will not be affected.
- IPS signature autoupdate
- CS-MARS upgrade package CCO download
Background
Cisco provides software downloads and IPS signature updates for CS-MARS customers via remote server access on Cisco.com. The server that provides this service is migrating to a new location effective December 3, 2010.
Problem Symptoms
After December 3, 2010 customers running software releases 6.0.1 to 6.0.3 will no longer be able to:
- Automatically download IPS signature packages from CCO.
- Upgrade CS-MARS through the CCO download option.
Workaround/Solution
Prior to December 3, 2010 CS-MARS customers must either upgrade to CS-MARS software release 6.0.4 or later or perform the following workarounds to continue IPS and CCO download service:
To maintain the IPS Signature Download Feature
Modify the URL at Admin > System Setup > IPS Signature Dynamic Update Settings from the current value of
https://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/ida/locator/locator.pl with the new value of https://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/front.x/ida/locator/locator.pl. Reference Figure 1 below.

For details on how to modify this URL, see the IPS Signature Dynamic Update Settings section in Chapter 4, Cisco IPS 6.x Devices and Virtual Sensors in of Device Configuration Guide for Cisco Security MARS, Release 6.x.
- To maintain the CS-MARS Upgrade from CCO Feature:
Manually download the updates and upgrade from a local server.
For details, select the Internal Upgrade Server option in Step 4 of the Checklist for Upgrades of Appliance Software section in Chapter 5, Upgrade Management, Cisco Security MARS Initial Configuration and Upgrade Guide, 6.X.
The download option will function normally once CS-MARS software release 6.0.4 is running.
