Problem Description
Cisco Security Manager (CSM) customers subscribing to automatic IPS signatures/sensors are required to download and install a Cisco Security Manager Service Pack before December 23, 2010 as the IPS signatures are migrating to a new download location on CCO.
Background
Customers using IPS depend on continuous signature updates from Cisco for up-to-date protection of their network. Cisco Security Manager provides multiple methods to manage IPS signature updates:
- CSM can be used as a tool to update sensors/signatures automatically (via IPS Autodownload) from CCO.
- CSM can be used as a tool to update sensors/signatures manually from CCO.
- CSM can be used as a tool to update sensors/signatures via Local Server.
This field notice impacts those customers using CSM as a tool to update sensors as described in methods 1 and 2 above.
Problem Symptoms
Customers who do not install the Cisco Security Manager Service Pack prior to December 23, 2010 may not receive automatic IPS signature updates and could potentially be vulnerable to security threats.
Workaround/Solution
The Cisco Security Manager Service Pack can be installed from http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6498/index.html. Customers should upgrade to 3.2.2 or higher version to be able to apply the Service Pack.
Completing the software patch installation by December 23, 2010 will guarantee that CSM customers continue to receive automatic IPS signature updates from Cisco for up-to-date network protection. The table below shows the Service Pack that applies to each version of CSM:
