Problem Description
The MPLS/VPN self learning feature is not recommended for use with SCA-BB versions below 3.1.5.
Background
The MPLS/VPN self learning feature has been added into the SCA-BB solution as of version 3.0.3.
In version 3.1.5, major enhancements and fixes have been implemented, to the point where it is unadvisable to use older versions than 3.1.5 with MPLS/VPN self learning, and specifically not 3.1.0/3.1.1.
Problem Symptoms
A known defect, CSCsj68557, which exists in versions 3.1.0 and 3.1.1, causes the systemclassification in MPLS/VPN classification mode to be inaccurate along over time.
In addition, another known defect in the upgrade process of MPLS/VPN subscribers for the Subscriber Manager prevents easy upgrade to version 3.1.5 from older versions.
Moreover, due to the improved support for multiple subscribers per MPLS/VPN, introduced in version 3.1.5, the MPLS/VPN based subscribers support is not fully backward compatible, requiring the customer to manually edit the Subscriber Manager configuration files.
All these issues, combined with the major added value in the MPLS/VPN support in version 3.1.5, make it counterproductive for a customer/user to use earlier versions for MPLS/VPN self learning support.
Workaround/Solution
Solution
Use versions 3.1.5 or later for MPLS/VPN self learning support.
