Problem Description
Cisco has identified that customers with DS-C9140-K9, DS-C9216-K9, DS-C9216A-K9 and DS-C9216I-K9 switches running with SAN-OS releases 3.0.x - that is 3.0(1), 3.0(2), 3.0(2a), 3.0(2b), 3.0(3) and 3.0(3b) - may see the switch reload in about 233 days from uptime.
The issue is only present in DS-C9140-K9, DS-C9216-K9, DS-C9216A-K9 and DS-C9216I-K9 platforms running any SAN-OS 3.0.x release.
The issue is not present in any SAN-OS release prior to 3.0.x.
Background
In SAN-OS releases 3.0.x, the number of file descriptors exceeded the maximum allowed limit on DS-C9140-K9, DS-C9216-K9, DS-C9216A-K9 and DS-C9216I-K9 switches. This error condition resulted in a memory exhaustion in the system and the system runs out of all free memory in about 233 days, causing the switch to reload.
Problem Symptoms
Customer switches DS-C9140-K9, DS-C9216-K9, DS-C9216A-K9 and DS-C9216I-K9 running with SAN-OS releases 3.0.x may reload in about 233 days from uptime.
Workaround/Solution
Cisco is recommending customers with DS-C9140-K9, DS-C9216-K9, DS-C9216A-K9 and DS-C9216I-K9 switches to upgrade their SAN-OS to 3.1 (1) or later release.
