Problem Description
MARS-100/100E/200/GC/GCM appliances manufactured between March 27 and June 16, 2006 may have a mis-wired drive bay fan resulting in beeping noises from the MARS appliance. The beep sequence for the fan mis-wiring is two beeps followed by four beeps.
Background
Some material feed stock for the manufacturing process had a mis-wired drive-bay fan. The drive bay fan, mounted on the drive bay door, is separate from the appliance fan tray.
All fans in inventory were given a 100% visual inspection to purge the affected fans. The exact number of affected units which have shipped is unknown. It is assumed that some portion of the units identified in the serial number range may be affected.
Problem Symptoms
The drive bay fan will still operate, but will run at a slower rpm. This may cause a beeping alarm to sound; two beeps, followed by four beeps. The MARS appliance will continue to operate even as the beeping sounds.
Workaround/Solution
RMA the entire chassis as the fan is not a FRU part.
When generating the SVO, please select the following:
Service Level: MFG New
Reaction Hour/Day: 3rd Business Day
How To Identify Hardware Levels
Check the wiring of the fan connector to determine whether the fan is correctly or incorrectly wired. Open the drive bay door to see the fan wiring. Opening the drive bay door will not void the warranty.
Incorrect: Red wire next to Yellow wire
Correct: Red wire next to Black wire
