Problem Description
LWAPP IOS access points may disconnect and reconnect every 120 hours, when controlled by a Wireless LAN Controller running 3.2.150.6 or 4.0.155.0.
Problem Symptoms
The syslog will show message sequences:
spam_crypto.c 653: Failed decryption of message from AP [mac] spam_lrad.c 2119: Security processing of Airewave Director Data failed from AP [mac]
or
spam_lrad.c 2250: Security processing of Echo Request failed from AP
These will repeat for 5-7 seconds, after which the AP will disconnect from the WLC. Then some time later, the AP will rejoin:
spam_lrad.c 1115: Processing of Discovery Request failed from AP [mac] afp_rogue.c 2709: Can not change state on rogue [mac] spam_lrad.c 1809: AP [mac] associated. Last AP failure was due to Link Failure, reason: UNKNOWN
During the time that the AP is disconnected from the WLC, clients will be unable to associate to that AP.
Workaround/Solution
None.
The frequency with which the APs will disconnect is a function of the heartbeat timeout. The default of 30 seconds will cause APs to reboot every 120 hours (5 days).
To configure the heartbeat timeout to 30 seconds:
(Cisco Controller) > config advanced timers ap-heartBeat-timeout 30
To see the current settings:
(Cisco Controller) > show advanced timers
