Problem Description
A previous ECO used CLEI codes that were requested for a different Change Request that got cancelled. As a result of that cancelled change request, 21 units shipped out to customers with a wrong CLEI code label on the SCE Single Mode product. Multimode units are not affected.
Background
A previous ECO (E084398) used CLEI codes that were requested for a different ECO that was cancelled (Class B), and CLEI codes used eventually on ECO E084398 that classified as Class D. As a result, the CLEI Codes on E084398 are not correct for SCE2020-SM and SCE1010-SM products.
Problem Symptoms
The wrong CLEI code labeling is on the product (visual only). An incorrect CLEI code has been applied and programmed into the Single Mode SCP products. Part Number 800-26617-02 was incorrectly CLEI coded with ANMM800ERA. Part Number 800-26600-03 was CLEI coded with ANMM600ERA.
Workaround/Solution
Solutions:
Cisco will allow customers to return affected units via the standard RMA process.
Alternatively, Cisco also provides the option for customers to replace CLEI and 800 Part Number labels and update the version number in the ID-Eeprom in the field. In these cases, Cisco will ship labels to affected customers per customer request from gshachar@cisco.com.
The ID-Eeprom 800 Part Number change procedures are as follows.
Instructions for updating the Top Assembly Part Number in ID EPROM:
Updating the SCE1010 from Part Number 800-26617-02 SCE1010-2XGBE-SM to Part Number 800-26617-03 SCE1010-2XGBE-SM:
Connect the terminal to the Aux port of the SCE unit and issue the following commands:
pscd "3" (move to directory #3) psd 8," 800-26617-03" (update p/n field with the correct p/n) pss (save change)
Updating the SCE2020 from Part Number 800-26600-02 SCE2020-4XGBE-SM to Part Number 800-26600-03 SCE2020-4XGBE-SM:
Connect the terminal to Aux port of the SCE unit and issue the following commands:
pscd "3" (move to directory #3) psd 8," 800-26600-03" (update p/n field with the correct p/n) pss (save change)
To verify that the change was implemented correctly, reboot the unit upon change, and issue the show version CLI command.
Cisco prefers that customers upgrade their units according the above described alternate process, but also will allow for returns.
How To Identify Hardware Levels
Only Singlemode units are affected, and only if they shipped in the period of March 5, 2006 to May10, 2006 from Cisco. MultiMode units not affected.
Affected units can be identified by their CLEI Code label on the product face plate and/or the Cisco Part Number label.
The Part Number is also programmed into the product EPROM. In order to see the product EPROM contents:
-
Establish a connection via the operating system CLI
-
Issue the show version command
The affected products are marked as follows:
SCE2020-4xGBE-SM Part number: 800-26600-02 CLEI code:448811,ANMM600ERA
SCE1010-2xGBE-SM part number: 800-26617-02 CLEI code:448809,ANMM800ERA
In order to find the serial number, issue the CLI show version command. All 21 affected serial numbers can be found in the Serial Number section of this Field Notice.
