Introduction

This article will guide you through the process of saving or backing up configuration file on NSS4000/6000 by saving the config file on volume or external USB flash drive.

Note: This procedure applies only to the NSS4000/6000 series products.

There are two ways to save a configuration file.

Method 1: Save on a volume on the NSS4000/6000.
Method 2: Save on an external USB flash drive plugged into NSS4000/6000.

It is highly recommended that you save the configuration file to a USB flash drive.

Method 1

Step 1. Log in to the interface of the storage unit, which is the IP address of the storage unit; for example: http://x.x.x.x

Step 2. Go to Admin > Configuration to specify a location in the Configuration page.

Step 3. Choose RAID from the Stored Configuration Location drop-down list.

Step 4. Click Update.

Step 5. Click the Save button next to Save Current Configuration in order to save the config file to the location you have chosen.

Step 6. Click OK in the Configuration Saved dialog box.

Step 7. Click the Restore button next to Restore System configuration if you want to view and/or restore the saved configuration file.

The Saved Configurations page appears. You will be able to see that the config file is time and date stamped.

Step 8. On this page, you can choose to do a full restore or delete the configuration file.

Method 2

Step 1. Connect a USB flash drive to AUX-1 port (USB), which is located in the front.

Step 2. Log in to the interface of the storage unit http://x.x.x.x (where x is the IP address of the storage unit).

Step 3. Click Admin > Configuration.

Step 4. Choose USB Drive from the Stored Configuration Location drop-down list.

Step 5. Click Update. The option for USB Drive will display only when the NSS has detected the USB flash drive.

Step 6: Click Save, and then click OK.

Step 7. Click Restore to verify if the file was saved, and then click Cancel.

Step 8. To safely unmount the USB flash drive, click Unmount.
