Cisco Small Business Network Storage Systems

The following article illustrates the setup of a DFS share in a domain environment with a NSS4000/6000.

Note: You will need to set permissions of the domain users in the Security tab on your server for each shared folder, if they have not been already configured.

Step 1:
To start creating the DFS share on NSS 4000/6000, login into the UI of the NSS.

Step 2:
Click on Shares -> Shares.

Step 3:
Next, click Create Share.

Note: DFS option is only available when you are creating a new share. It will not be available on any existing share, unless the existing share was created with the DFS root.

Step 4:
Under the New Share section, enter a name for the share.

Step 5:
Select the DFS root option. All the options for CIFS, Options & Protocol section will be grayed out.

Step 6:
Click Update and you will be redirected back to the Shares page.

Step 7:
Under the Protocol column, it will show CIFS (DFS Root). Click on Edit.

Step 8:
Under the Edit Share section, click on the Add Shared Folder button.

Step 9:
Enter the necessary information to add a folder that is located on the server:

• Add a Folder to DFS
  o?Link Name: This is the name of the link that appears as a folder within the share. When users click this link, they are redirected to the target share on the remote server. Enter any name of up to 255 characters.
  o?Server Name: Enter the name of the remote server on which the target share is located.
  o?Share: Enter the name of the target share.
• Import an Entire Remote Server: Select this option to automatically create links for all shares on the remote server.
  o?Server Name: Enter the name of the remote server.
  o?Username: Enter the username of the account with access to the server.
  o?Password: Enter the password for the above account.

Step 10:
Once the folder is added, you will see the link under the Target section. To add another folder, just click on Add Shared Folder button.

Step 11:
The domain user can now login to the share with the permissions that the domain administrator has set for each share on the server.
