This product bulletin describes the content and delivery information concerning Cisco IOS® Software Release 12.2(15)JA, an early deployment release supporting Cisco Aironet® 350 Series access points, Cisco Aironet 1100 Series access points, Cisco Aironet 1200 Series access points, the Cisco Aironet 1310 outdoor access point/bridge of the Cisco Aironet 1300 Series and the Cisco Aironet 1410 wireless bridge of the Cisco Aironet 1400 Series. This release contains new features as well as all of the features delivered in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(13)JA described in Product Bulletin No. 2347.
Overview
Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(15)JA introduces the new the Cisco Aironet 1300 Series outdoor access point/bridge and provides several new features for Cisco Aironet access points and wireless bridges. New features for Cisco Aironet access points include access point scanning-only mode, client tracking, IEEE 802.11d world mode, MAC address local authentication, a Cisco Compatible Extensions information element, and support for Extensible Authentication Protocol-Flexible Authentication via Secure Tunneling
(EAP-FAST). For Cisco Aironet wireless bridges, Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) support is now available. These Cisco IOS Software features are available as a free software upgrade for Cisco Aironet 1200, 1100, and 350 Series access points, the Cisco Aironet 1300 Series outdoor access point/bridge, and the Cisco Aironet 1400 Series wireless bridge. Figure 1 displays the Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(15)JA release train and recommended migration path.

Updates to Existing Cisco IOS Software Features
Table 1 lists updates to existing features delivered in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(13)JA and earlier. These updates are supported under the features listed in this release for the platforms noted with Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(15)JA and later.
Features Not Supported in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(15)JA for the Cisco Aironet 1300 Series Access Point/Bridge
The Cisco Aironet 1300 Series access point/bridge will support the same Cisco IOS Software access point features as Cisco Aironet 1100 Series access points in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(13)JA and earlier releases with the exception of radio management, radio management aggregation, Wireless Domain Services (WDS) and IEEE 802.1X local authentication service. The Cisco Aironet 1300 Series access point/bridge will support the same Cisco IOS Software wireless bridge features as the Cisco Aironet 1400 Series wireless bridge in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(13)JA and earlier releases with the exception of IEEE 802.11a.
Table 2 lists the features that were introduced in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(13)JA or earlier that are not supported by the Cisco Aironet 1300 Series access point/bridge.
New Features in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(15)JA
Table 3 lists the new features delivered in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(15)JA. These features are supported in this release for the platforms noted, with continued support for the features introduced in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(13)JA and earlier releases except as noted above.

Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(15)JA New Features
Access Point Scanning-Only Mode
This Cisco Structured Wireless-Aware Network (SWAN) feature allows the Cisco Aironet access point to be set in a scanning-only mode, where it scans the RF environment for other access points and unassociated 802.11 clients. In this mode, the access point does not transmit beacons, respond to probe requests, or support client device association. This mode allows the Cisco Aironet access point to function as an intrusion detection device to detect rogue (unauthorized) access points and unassociated 802.11 clients.
Client Tracking
This new Wireless Domain Services (WDS) feature expands the radio management information gathered from Cisco Aironet access points to include information on client authentication and roaming events. It expands Cisco SWAN capabilities by providing near-real-time tracking of client associations via the CiscoWorks Wireless LAN Solution Engine (WLSE).
IEEE 802.11d World Mode Support
The 802.11d standard for world mode is supported by Cisco Aironet access points in this release. World mode enables the access point to inform an 802.11d client device which radio setting the device should use to conform to local regulations.
Cisco Compatible Extensions Information Element
This information element allows a Cisco Aironet access point to inform Cisco Compatible Extensions client devices about the Cisco Compatible release version that it supports.
MAC Address Local Authentication
With this new feature, the Cisco Aironet access point's local authenticator can be configured to allow MAC authentication for users on the Cisco Aironet access point. Up to 50 users can be supported with this release.
IEEE 802.1X Support for EAP-FAST
This Cisco Wireless Security Suite feature supports the IEEE 802.1X standard port-based authentication type
EAP-FAST. EAP-FAST can also be supported by access points running Cisco IOS Software version 12.2(11)JA or later.Wi-Fi Protected Access
Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is now supported on Cisco Aironet access points and wireless bridges. WPA is the Wi-Fi Alliance specification for interoperable wireless LAN security. It supports IEEE 802.1X authentication using extensible authentication protocol (EAP) authentication types and temporal key integrity protocol (TKIP) encryption.
Work Group Bridge (WGB) Mode
This feature allows a Cisco Aironet Series wireless bridge or access point to be configured to operate as a work group bridge (WGB) client.
Fast Secure Roaming Non-root Wireless Bridge
This feature offers fast secure layer 2 roaming for a non-root wireless bridge or workgroup bridge to the wired infrastructure via a wireless root bridge or an access point.
