Cisco Aironet Software Release 2.50 for Windows CE
Cisco Systems® announces the availability of a new release of Cisco® Aironet® Software for Windows CE that provides support for Extensible Authentication Protocol-Flexible Authentication via Secure Tunneling (EAP-FAST), EAP-Transport Layer Security (TLS), and Cisco Protected Extensible Authentication Protocol (PEAP).
New Features
The following new features are included in Cisco Aironet Software Release 2.50 for Windows CE. These features are supported by Cisco Aironet 350 Series wireless LAN client adapters.
•
EAP-FAST—EAP-FAST is a new IEEE 802.1X authentication type available for Cisco Aironet 350 Series client adapters on computers running Windows CE 3.0 (PPC 2002 or PPC 2003) or Windows CE .NET 4.2. EAP-FAST offers flexible, easy deployment and management, supports several user and password database types, supports server-initiated password expiration and change, and does not require digital certificates. Cisco developed EAP-FAST for customers who want to deploy an 802.1X EAP type that does not use certificates and that provides protection from dictionary attacks. For example, a customer using Cisco LEAP who cannot enforce a strong password policy and does not want to use certificates can migrate to EAP-FAST for protection from dictionary attacks. EAP-FAST allows for a smooth migration from LEAP. EAP-FAST is supported by the Cisco Wireless Security Suite. For more information about EAP-FAST, read the EAP-FAST Q&A.
•EAP-TLS—EAP-TLS is now supported for use on Windows CE 3.0 (PPC 2003) and Windows CE .NET 4.2 devices. EAP-TLS is an 802.1X EAP authentication algorithm based on the TLS protocol (RFC 2246). TLS uses mutual authentication based on X.509 certificates.
•PEAP—Cisco PEAP is now supported for use on Windows CE 3.0 (PPC 2003) and Windows CE .NET 4.2 devices. PEAP is an 802.1X EAP authentication type that takes advantage of server-side EAP-TLS and supports several different authentication methods, including logon passwords and one-time passwords (OTPs).
