Product Substitution
The MSM module is effectively replaced by Multilayer Switch Feature Card (MSFC) that delivers much higher performance multilayer forwarding at 15 Mpps. MSFC is a daughter card that can be ordered on the Catalyst Supervisor 1A. It combines the benefits of Cisco IOS with the performance of Catalyst 6000 to support a broad array of features including:

Much higher IP/IPX/IP Multicast performance at 15 Mpps
•
A wide set of protocols including IP, IPX, AppleTalk, DECnet, VINES, XNS,OSI, CLNS
•
InterDomain Routing Support---BGP4, ISIS
•
Multimedia services---Protocol-Independent Multicast (PIM) (both sparse and dense mode), and Cisco Group Management Protocol (CGMP) and Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) snooping
•
Class of Service (CoS) enablers---Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP), and Weighted Fair Queuing (WFQ)
TABLE 2 outlines the MSFC module. All new orders for Layer 3 functionality should use the part number listed in Table 2.
