Introduction
The purpose of this document is to clarify the naming conventions among the various Catalyst 2900 and Catalyst 4000 switches. Provided in the tables are the product names, the platform from which the product was derived, any relevant details on the product, the command line interface (CLI) used on the product, the image name, and which software configuration and troubleshooting document can be used for a particular switch platform.
Refer to the respective product link in order to learn more technical details on a particular product in these tables.

Caution: The Catalyst 4500 Series Supervisor Engines I and II can run only
Catalyst OS Software and cannot be converted to run with Cisco IOS
Software.
Caution: The Catalyst 4500 Series Supervisor Engines II+, II+10GE, II+TS, III,
IV, V, and V-10GE can run with only Cisco IOS Software and cannot be converted
to run with Catalyst OS Software.
