End-of-Sale Announcement for the Cisco 3640 and the Introduction of the Cisco 3640A
Overview
Cisco Systems announces the end of life of the Cisco 3640 Router. The last day to order the Cisco 3640 Router is November 15, 2002 (Revised Date). The following product IDs are affected by this announcement:

The Cisco 3640 Router will continue to support new IOS features through 12.2T and 12.3T, and software support will be provided through 12.4M or November 2005, whichever comes first. Customers will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until November 2007. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the affected products.
Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco 3725 and Cisco 3745 Routers. On an interim basis, we will make the 3640A available as an alternative for customers with configurations that are not yet supported on the 3700. Table 2 provides relevant information for migrating from the Cisco 3640 to the 3700 Series Routers and the 3640A.

Product Migration Options
The recommended replacements for the Cisco 3640 are the Cisco 3700 Series Routers. On an interim basis, we will make the 3640A available as an alternative for customers with configurations that are not yet supported on the 3700. Refer to table 2 for details.
The Cisco 3700 Multiservice Access Routers are based on the same modular concepts but enable dramatically higher levels of application and service integration in enterprise branch offices. With on-board LAN/WAN connectivity, new high density service modules, and support for multiple Advanced Integration modules (AIMs), the Cisco 3700 delivers new levels of branch office service density in a compact form factor.

The 3640A is identical to the 3640 in terms of physical characteristics, interface support, performance, memory and IOS feature support. All currently open mainline release trains and the 12.2T release train will be supported, starting with the latest maintenance releases: IOS Releases 12.0(24), 12.1(17), 12.2(12) and 12.2(11)T1. The Cisco 3640 and 3640A will continue to support new IOS features through 12.2T and 12.3T, and software support will be provided through 12.4M or November 2005, whichever comes first.
