XC-VXL-10G/2.5G Cross Connect Cards for the
Cisco ONS 15454 SDH MSPPThe XC-VXL family of cross-connect cards provide a comprehensive low-order and high-order switching matrix to groom, aggregate, and transport traffic across the metro-optical network with the Cisco ONS 15454 SDH multiservice provisioning platform (MSPP).

Product Overview
The XC-VXL-10G and XC-VXLX2.5G cross-connect cards function in conjunction with the TCC2 advanced processor card to maintain connections and set-up both low-order and high-order cross-connects within the Cisco ONS 15454 SDH system. The XC-VXL-10G supports bandwidth-intensive STM-64 transport applications while the XC-VXLX2.5G is offered as an alternative for transport applications through STM-16.
The XC-VXL-10G and XC-VXLX2.5G cards are fully redundant and deployed in slots 8 and 10 in the ETSI shelf assembly. The standby XC-VXL card functions as a hot-standby card.
The XC-VXL cards utilize three card-level indication lights on the faceplate to display its operational status. The red FAIL LED indicates that the XC-VXL module has a hardware failure. The bi-color ACT/STBY light indicator indicates the modules current operational status. When the ACT/STBY light indicator is green, it indicates that it is the working module and is in the active condition. When the ACT/STBY light indicator is amber, it indicates that it is the protection module and is operating in a stand-by condition.
Cross-Connect Matrix
The XC-VXL-10G and XC-VXLX2.5G provide cross-connections at the VC-4, VC-3, and VC-12 levels. The XC-VXL-10G is designed for a full non-blocking 384x384 port VC-4 (and 4-Nc) cross-connect matrix, 384x384 VC-3/TUG-3 cross-connect capacity, and a 2016x2016 port VC-12 cross-connect capacity. The XC-VXL-10G features non-blocking STM-64 capacity to each of the four multiservice high-speed slots, and non-blocking STM-16 capacity to each of the eight multiservice low-speed slots.
The XC-VXLX2.5G provides an alternative for STM-16 optical transport applications, but still features both a high and low-order switch matrix that supports VC-4, VC-3, and VC-12 cross-connects. The XC-VXLX2.5G supports full non-blocking 192x192 port VC-4 (and 4-Nc) cross-connect matrix, 384x384 port VC-3/TUG-3 cross-connect capacity, and a 2016x2016 port VC-12 cross-connect capacity. The XC-VXLX2.5G has non-blocking STM-16 capacity to all 12 of the multiservice interface card slots.

The Cisco Advantage
The Cisco ONS 15454 SDH platform is a key building block in today's optical networks through its ability to offer next-generation transport capabilities and economics. It offers supercharged multiservice transport capability by combining the best of a time-division multiplexing (TDM) system along with extensive Ethernet/IP data service offerings in a single platform. The Cisco ONS 15454 MSPP can aggregate traditional facilities such as asynchronous E1, DS3/E3, E4 or STM-1E circuits and synchronous optical interfaces along with data services, including 10BASE-T, 100BASE-T, or Gigabit Ethernet onto optical transport facilities such as STM-16, STM-16 DWDM, STM-64, and STM-64 DWDM line interfaces. The Cisco ONS 15454's superior flexibility enables drastically improved efficiencies in the transport layer and breakthrough cost savings for initial and lifecycle deployment.
