Cisco ONS 15530
2.5 Gbps ITU Trunk CardThe Cisco® ONS 15530 2.5 Gbps ITU Trunk Card provides the Cisco ONS 15530 DWDM Multiservice Aggregation Platform with a 2.5 Gbps trunk option for aggregating multiple enterprise system connection (ESCON), Fibre Channel, fiber connectivity (FICON), and Gigabit Ethernet services over a single ITU (International Telecommunication Union) wavelength. The 2.5 Gbps ITU trunk cards are tunable to one of two dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) channels in the 32-channel C-band (100 GHz spacing) range supported by the Cisco ONS 15500 Series.

Key BenefitsKey Features
Service aggregation—By performing service aggregation onto a 2.5 Gbps ITU wavelength, customers can dramatically increase their fiber-carrying capacity for storage and data applications. Up to 10 ESCON or 2 Fibre Channel, FICON, or Gigabit Ethernet ports can be multiplexed onto a single ITU wavelength.
Design flexibility—With 2.5 and 10 Gbps ITU trunk card options, the Cisco ONS 15530 platform provides greater scalability from low-density to high-density deployments. The Cisco ONS 15530 2.5 Gbps ITU Trunk Cards also allow flexible network designs that require the ability to add/drop a few services per site around a metro ring.
Investment protection—As customers' service requirements change, the Cisco ONS 15530 2.5 Gbps ITU Trunk Card provides investment protection by being able to initially aggregate one protocol (for example, 10 ESCON ports) and then later aggregate a different protocol (for example, 2 Fibre Channel ports) as application requirements change. The 2.5 Gbps solution offers an attractive entry-level solution that can easily scale up to 10 Gbps.
Protection options—The Cisco ONS 15530 2.5 Gbps ITU Trunk Card can be deployed with optical splitter-based protection or 1+1 protection to provide enhanced service protection by sending the optical trunk signal simultaneously over both East and West fiber paths.
Performance monitoring—The Cisco ONS 15530 2.5 Gbps ITU Trunk Card offers performance monitoring, providing the customer with the ability to monitor optical signal performance.
Partners—The Cisco ONS 15530 2.5 Gbps ITU Trunk Card is fully compatible with storage applications from Cisco partners, including IBM GDPS, EMC SRDF, HP/Compaq DRM, and HDS TrueCopy. This allows customers the flexibility of deploying the Cisco ONS 15530 platform in many different storage environments with full confidence.
Storage applications—The Cisco ONS 15530 2.5 Gbps ITU Trunk Card, coupled with ESCON and Fibre Channel or FICON aggregation cards, can be used in storage networking applications such as business continuance, disaster recovery, disk mirroring, and storage-area network (SAN) extension.
Data networking—The Cisco ONS 15530 platform, configured with Cisco ONS 15530 2.5 Gbps ITU Trunk Cards, can provide metro Gigabit Ethernet services over a 2.5 Gbps metro DWDM backbone for high-bandwidth intercampus networking applications. By networking IP traffic end-to-end in its native Ethernet format at wire speed and with full OAM capabilities, enterprises can avoid the added complexity and cost of protocol conversion and rate adaptation into another metropolitan-area network (MAN) or wide-area network (WAN) protocol.
