End-of-Sale and End-of-Life Announcement for G1000-4 Gigabit Ethernet Card for ONS 15454 SONET/SDH MSPP
Cisco Systems announces the end of life of the Cisco G1000-4 Gigabit Ethernet private line card for the Cisco ONS 15454 SONET and SDH multiservice provisioning platforms (MSPPs). The last day to order the Cisco G1000-4 card is December 31, 2003. Customers will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until January 31, 2009. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco G1000-4 card. Table 2 outlines the Cisco product names impacted by this announcement.
Customers are encouraged to begin purchasing the Cisco G1K-4 Gigabit Ethernet private line card, which provides enhanced cross-connect flexibility versus the G1000-4 card as well as compatibility to the previous software Release 3.2.x (SONET only), Release 3.3, and Release 3.4.x (SDH). The recommended replacement for the Cisco G1000-4 Gigabit Ethernet card is the G1K-4 Gigabit Ethernet card (Table 3 and Table 4). The G1K-4 card is a direct replacement to the G1000-4 card. In SONET systems, the additional advantage of the G1K-4 card is its compatibility in the high-speed card slots utilizing the XC or XC-VT cross-connect cards as well as any slot of an XC-10G cross-connect card equipped system. In the SDH platform, the G1K-4 is compatible with all the cross-connect cards. The G1K-4 card is backward compatible in XC-10G equipped systems deployed with software Release 3.2.x (SONET only), R3.3.x, and R3.4.x, simplifying the transition to the new card and eliminating the need to stock two card types.
