End-of-Sale and End-of-Life Announcement for the
Cisco 12000 Series 2-Port OC-12c/STM-4c DPT Line Cards
Cisco Systems announces the end of life of the Cisco 12000 Series 2-Port OC-12c/STM-4c DPT line cards (2-Port OC-12 DPT line cards). The last day to order the 2-Port OC-12 DPT line cards is December 01, 2003. Customers will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until December 01, 2008. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the 2-Port OC-12 DPT line cards.
Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco 12000 Series 4-Port OC-12c/STM-4c DPT ISE line cards (4-Port OC-12 DPT ISE line cards). These Dynamic Packet Transport (DPT) line cards are higher-performance, feature-rich line cards based on the Internet Services Engine (ISE). Information about these products can be found at:

Table 3 provides relevant information for migrating from the 2-Port OC-12 DPT line cards to the 4-Port OC-12 DPT ISE line cards.

Product Migration Options
The recommended replacement for the 2-Port OC-12 DPT line cards is the 4-Port OC-12 DPT ISE line cards (Table 3). The 4-Port OC-12 DPT ISE line cards provide full line-rate throughput for IP forwarding and Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) with the ISE. These newer line cards provide faster handling of packets generated by mission-critical applications as well as delay-sensitive real-time applications such as voice and video over IP.
