Product Substitution
The first-generation NAM is effectively replaced by NAM-1, which provides higher monitoring performance and is switch-fabric enabled to support both crossbar- and bus-based architectures in the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series. The extra-high-performance NAM-2 is also available to support extended needs of the scalable switching environment. NAM-1 and NAM-2 are supported by the NAM software version 2.2, which comes with the embedded, Web-based Traffic Analyzer, providing full-scale remote monitoring (RMON) and troubleshooting capabilities.
Key features of NAM-1 and NAM-2 (with NAM Software Version 2.2):
•
Switch-fabric-enabled, with interfaces to both bus- and crossbar-based architectures in the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series
•
High-performance, dual-processor architecture (NAM-2 features an additional accelerator card to boost packet-processing performance)
•
Large memory and capture-buffer sizes for high-capacity traffic monitoring
•
Embedded NAM Traffic Analyzer application providing full-scale RMON and troubleshooting capabilities accessible from a Web browser
•
Voice-over-IP (VoIP) and Application Response Time (ART) features, requiring purchase of licenses with earlier versions of NAM, are now included at no extra cost with NAM-1 and NAM-2
•
Use of mini-RMON in the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series switch with NAM-1 or NAM-2 installed does not require purchase of the mini-RMON license
