Product Bulletin No. 2231
New Pricing Structure for Channel Interface Processor and Channel Port Adapter Features
Overview
Effective June 30, 2003, Cisco Systems is implementing changes to both the pricing structure and several of the features that run on the Channel Interface Processor (CIP) and the enhanced Channel Port Adapter (ECPA4). The purpose of these changes is to respond to current market conditions, to better conform to customer ordering patterns, and to simplify the overall ordering process for the CIP and ECPA4. Whereas several features were priced separately in the past, now most will be included as standard features of the CIP and ECPA4 microcode. Additionally, the tiered pricing structure, based on number of sessions, is being eliminated and features that remain separately priced now will have a single price for unlimited sessions. The following features will be included as standard and will not require a license charge:
Information about these features can be found at http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/pd/ ifaa/ifpz/chifpz/tech/dcdg1_rg.htm.
New Pricing Structure
Product codes previously used for ordering these features will be deleted after June 30, 2003. Following that date, customers are free to configure and use any of these features except those listed in Table 1 without paying a license fee. Table 1 defines all of the new product codes for the CIP and ECPA4 features that do, and will continue to, require a license charge be paid.
Table 1 CIP and ECPA4 Features Requiring a License Charge
Each CIP or ECPA4 that is running a copy of TN3270 Server needs its own license. If a customer is running TN3270 Server on two CIP cards in one Cisco 7500 Series router, the customer needs to purchase two TN3270 Server licenses.
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption support is available for the TN3270 Server. The price for SSL support is in addition to the price for the TN3270 Server support. (To activate the SSL support, the customer must also be running a Cisco IOS" image that supports IPSec.)
Because all TN3270 Server licenses support an unlimited number of sessions, no upgrade product codes are needed.
