The Omni antenna system for the Cisco® BWX 8305 Basestation reached end of sale in July 2008. Testing for any future WiMAX-capable software releases, including major releases and maintenance releases, will not be performed with the Omni antenna systems. Current customers with Cisco BWX Omni antenna systems in their network who have already upgraded to WiMAX-capable software Release 6.x are required to upgrade to Cisco BWX Panel antenna systems prior to upgrading to Release 7.0 or subsequent releases. Customers currently operating in MC-SCDMA mode should upgrade their Omni antenna systems to panel antenna systems prior to upgrading to WiMAX-capable software Release 6.x or higher.
Warranty and ongoing Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) support for Cisco BWX 8305 Basestations only cover basestations deployed with supported configurations. Customers with Cisco BWX 8305 Basestations deployed with Omni antenna systems should modify their RF planning based on Panel antenna system coverage, location, and link budget to determine if additional basestations are required. The Cisco BWX 8305 Omni antenna system supports a 360-degree cell site, while the Panel antenna system supports a 120-degree sector. If moving the basestation to the edge of the cell site is an option, the customer can consider redeploying the basestation with a new Panel antenna system installed. RF planning is required in all cases to ensure proper coverage.
Other considerations in determining if additional basestations are required include the possibility of moving a basestation to a different location and potential issues with tower structure requirements such as weight and windloading differences between the Cisco BWX 8305 Omni antenna system and the Panel antenna system. If additional basestations are required, the customer should order and install the new basestation with the supported Panel antenna system as a prerequisite to performing the software upgrade to Release 7.0 and subsequent releases.
