Product Migration Options
Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco Aironet 1520 Series wireless broadband platform. The 1520 Series consists of the Cisco Aironet 1522 and 1524 Lightweight Outdoor Mesh Access Points. The 1522 is a dual-band mesh access point, while the 1524 supports three radios for public safety applications. Note that the 1520 Series does not offer a single-band mesh access point.
The Cisco Aironet 1520 Series wireless broadband platform provides a superset of mesh functionality compared to the 1500 Series. An enhanced design provides higher-power radios, optional battery backup, greater options for powering, and 802.3a/f Power over Ethernet for attached devices. Customers can connect the 1520 Series to their Gigabit Ethernet network or optionally to their fiber or DOCSIS 2.0 cable networks. With greater memory and processing speeds, the 1520 Series is designed to support an advanced feature set. The 1520 Series is available in multiple configurations to suit a customer's needs. Information about this product can be found at: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps8368/index.html.
Customers who have the Cisco 1505 or 1510 mesh access points can continue to run their access points on Cisco Unified Wireless Networking release 4.1.192.22M, which is the latest release on the mesh train, a separate train that branched from the mainline release of Cisco Unified Wireless Networking software. Customers will also be able to run their 1505 and 1510 mesh access points on a future maintenance release of the mainline Cisco Unified Wireless Networking 4.2 general deployment release. This release is expected to be available in fall 2008. Maintenance releases for the Cisco 1505 and 1510 mesh access points will be delivered throughout the support period noted below in the Cisco Unified Wireless Networking 4.2 release train. The 1510 and 1505 will not be supported in releases 5.0, 5.1 or later of Cisco Unified Wireless Networking software.
Note that the 1520 Series will not be supported on the Cisco Unified Wireless Networking 4.2 release train. Customers who have 1500 Series and 1520 Series combined within a single mesh sector will need to run release 4.1.192.22M. If customers need to run their 1500 Series on release 4.2, they will need to redeploy their mesh access points so that a single mesh sector does not comprise both 1500 and 1520 Series mesh access points.
