End-of-Sale and End-of-Life Announcement for the Cisco MGCP Software Image [Cisco Unified IP Phone 7900 Series]

Cisco Systems® announces the end-of-availability and support dates for the Cisco® MGCP Software Image on the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7940G and Unified IP Phone 7960G. This is not an end-of-life announcement for the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7940G and Unified IP Phone 7960G, it is only an end-of-support announcement for one of the three Unified IP signaling protocols supported on these phones.

The last day to download the Cisco MGCP Software Image on the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7940G and Unified IP Phone 7960G is May 31, 2008. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) as shown in Table 1. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco MGCP Software Image on the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7940G and Unified IP Phone 7960G. Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this announcement.

Because the MGCP and SIP firmware images for these phones share the same product IDs, and because the SIP images are not subject to this announcement, no product ID or SKU is end of sale as per this announcement.

This announcement advises users of the MGCP firmware images for these phones that no further software fixes or patches will be available after May 30, 2008 and that the firmware images themselves will be removed from the firmware download page on Cisco.com after May 30, 2008, and that Cisco TAC will no longer offer support for the MGCP firmware on these phones after May 30, 2010.

Product Migration Options

There is no replacement product at this time. However, customers may choose to switch to running Cisco SCCP or SIP on this endpoint.

The recommended replacement for the MGCP software image running on the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7940G and Unified IP Phone 7960G is the SIP image for the same endpoint (Table 3). Users can upgrade their Cisco Unified IP Phone 7940G and Unified IP Phone 7960G to the SIP or SCCP images, which are not part of this end-of-support notice, for no additional fees.
