Cisco announces Cisco IOS® Software updates for Cisco® ME 3400E Series Ethernet Access Switches. This release furthers Cisco leadership by providing enhanced availability, flexibility, manageability, and security features for Carrier Ethernet deployments.

This product bulletin contains content and delivery information for Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(44)EY. The following new features are available with this Cisco IOS Software Release for Metro Ethernet switches:

• 2-Rate 3-Color Policer, Selective QinQ, 1:1 VLAN translation, and inner-to-outer class-of-service (CoS) propagation to enable higher-revenue, differentiated services

• 802.3ah Dying Gasp message to alert network administrators when power is lost

• Cisco Generic Online Diagnostics (GOLD) and Onboard Failure Logging (OBFL) to help prevent system problems before they occur

• External alarm inputs to allow remote monitoring of the switch environment

• Traffic loopback, which allows service providers to remotely verify and monitor services

Because of export restrictions on strong cryptography software, a separate image is required for the cryptographic features (Secure Shell [SSH] Protocol, Simple Network Management Protocol [SNMP] v3, and Kerberos Protocol). You can download these software images from the corresponding Triple Data Encryption Standard (3DES) area of the links provided previously.
