End-of-Sale and End-of-Life for the Cisco ONS 15501 EDFA [Cisco ONS 15500 Series]

END-OF-LIFE NOTICE, NO. 2805

Cisco Systems® announces the end-of-sale and end-of-life dates for the Cisco® ONS 15501 EDFA Optical Amplifier. The last day to order the affected product is September 18, 2005. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until September 18, 2010. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the affected product. Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this announcement.

Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco ONS 15216 EDFA Optical Amplifier which provides greater gain range and design flexibility. Table 3 provides relevant information for migrating to the replacement product.

PRODUCT MIGRATION OPTIONS

The recommended replacement for the Cisco ONS 15501 EDFA is the Cisco ONS 15216 EDFA Optical Amplifier (Table 3). The Cisco ONS 15216 EFDA Optical Amplifier allows users to optimize optical transmission performance for both metropolitan and long-haul 2.5- or 10-Gbps networks.
