Cisco Multicast Manager 3.1

PB595356

Product Overview

Cisco® Multicast Manager 3.1 simplifies discovery, visualization, monitoring, management, and troubleshooting of multicast networks to help ensure the availability of mission-critical services delivered over multicast. The video operations solution (VOS) add-on feature provides monitoring support for video probes to proactively detect poor-quality video that is being transported across an IP multicast infrastructure. The Multicast VPN (MVPN) add-on feature gives customers the ability to manage their Virtual Route Forwarding (VRF) tables by monitoring the service provider edge routers along with presenting on-demand views of the MVPN environment by provider edge router or VRF table.
Cisco Multicast Manager is also part of the Cisco® Video Assurance Management Solution (VAMS), which provides a flexible end-to-end assurance management platform for video.

New Features

New features in version 3.1 include:

Configurable Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Trap Descriptor: For SNMP traps originated by Cisco Multicast Manager, the user now has the ability to populate two free-format trap description fields that are included in the trap as variable bindings.

Service Description in SNMP Traps: SNMP traps originated by Cisco Multicast Manager will now have a service description for source and group (SG) for easy identification of the stream. The service description is obtained from the address management database in Cisco Multicast Manager.

Video Monitoring (VidMon) Support: Support is provided for the new VidMon family of metrics on the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers and the Cisco 7600 Series Routers. VidMon provides inline video monitoring of MPEG2 transport streams and uncompressed video.

Explicit User Tracking: This feature identifies the multicast receivers connected to Catalyst® 6500 Series Switches or 7600 Series Routers. Rate information is also displayed for each receiver.

Identification of Down Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) Interfaces: If a multicast trace performed by Cisco Multicast Manager fails due to one or more PIM interfaces being down, this feature allows the user to quickly identify the PIM interfaces that are down.

Time-Based SG Polling: Support is added to limit polling of specific multicast flows (identified by source and group) to a defined time range for selected days of the week.

SG Delta Trap Change: Information provided in the SG delta trap has been expanded to include information about the router reporting the high or low deviation in measured packets per second rate of the multicast flow. This information helps identify the affected router.

Tree Polling: Previously Cisco Multicast Manager would only compare the most recently polled tree against a defined baseline tree. This release adds the option to compare the most recently polled tree against the previously polled tree. With this option selected Cisco Multicast Manager notifies users of any tree change that occurs compared to the previous tree state.

Configurable Login Message: An option is provided to display a message to users at the time of login. The content of the message is administrator configurable.

Maximum Login Attempts: Non-administrator user accounts are locked after three failed login attempts.

Enhanced Cisco Multicast Manager User Audit Log: The types of user operations captured by the Cisco Multicast Manager audit log have been significantly expanded in Cisco Multicast Manager 3.1.

64-bit Linux: Cisco Multicast Manager 3.1 adds support for 64-bit versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Cisco IOS® XR Support: Cisco Multicast Manager 3.1 adds support for devices running Cisco IOS XR 3.8.X and 3.9.X.

Dashboard Metrics Graph: A new dashboard metrics graph feature allows users to monitor the traffic flow (metrics) for a selected set of configured polling entries.

TIBCO API Enhancement: Cisco Multicast Manager 3.1 exposes an API for polling configurations.
