Cisco Systems® announces the end-of-sale and end-of-life dates for the Cisco® Channel Interface Processor (CIP). The last day to order the Cisco CIP is January 31, 2005. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until January 31, 2010.
Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco CIP. Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this announcement.
Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco 7200 Series High-Performance Channel Port Adapter (ECPA4), which provides higher performance at a lesser cost. Information about this product can be found at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps2033/ps124/index.html.
Table 3 provides relevant information for migrating from the Cisco CIP to the ECPA4.

PRODUCT MIGRATION OPTIONS
The recommended replacement for the Cisco CIP is the Cisco ECPA4 (Table 3). The Cisco ECPA4 is for the Cisco 7200 Series Router, has one port, and provides higher performance at a lower price than the Cisco CIP. Functions are identical for the two products.

Customers can use the Cisco Technology Migration Plan (TMP) to trade in products and receive credit toward the purchase of new Cisco equipment. For more information about Cisco TMP, go to http://www.cisco.com/go/tradein/. The Cisco TMP application requires all users to have a Cisco.com user ID.
Customers may be able to continue to purchase the Cisco CIP through Cisco's Authorized Refurbished Equipment program. Refurbished units of the CIP are available in limited supply for sale in certain countries on a first-come, first-served basis.
