Starting August 2011, Cisco® Services-Ready Engine (SRE) Service Modules will be updated with a faster hard disk drive (HDD). The height of the new drive has increased from 9.5 mm to 15 mm, preventing field replacement and Redundant Array of Independent Disk (RAID) hot-swapping on the existing Cisco SRE 700 and SRE 900 modules. Therefore, new Cisco SRE 710 and SRE 910 part numbers will be introduced to accommodate the new, faster drive.

The 7200-rpm hard disk drive is 15 mm high, preventing interchange of spare new drives with the existing 9.5-mm drives for field-replacement and RAID hot-swapping purposes. For this reason new Cisco SRE 710 and SRE 910 part numbers have been introduced. The height and speed of the hard disk drive is the only difference between Cisco SRE 700 and SRE 710 and SRE 900 and SRE 910.
In addition, a new spare hard disk drive part number for the Cisco SRE 710 and SRE 910 will be introduced. Table 2 lists spare hard disk drive part numbers for the Cisco SRE Service Modules.

The Cisco SRE 700 and SRE 900 will continue to be sold and supported until further notice.
Cisco IOS Software Requirements
Table 3 lists the minimum Cisco IOS® Software release for Cisco SRE service modules. Note that some Cisco SRE applications require as a minimum Cisco IOS Software Release 15.1(4)M, and therefore this release is the recommended release for the Cisco SRE 700 and SRE 900.

All Cisco Integrated Services Routers Generation 2 (ISR G2) bundles that contain the Cisco SRE 700 Service Module have been updated to provide an option to select either the Cisco SRE 700 or SRE 710. Similarly, all Cisco ISR G2 bundles that contain the Cisco SRE 900 Service Module have been updated to provide an option to select either the Cisco SRE 900 or SRE 910.
