Audience and Use

The Cisco Unified Communications Operating System Administration Guide provides information about using the Cisco Unified Communications Operating System graphical user interface (GUI).

The guide provides information for network administrators who are responsible for managing and supporting the Cisco Unified Communications Operating System. Network engineers, system administrators, or telecom engineers use this guide to learn about, and administer, the operating system features. This guide requires knowledge of telephony and IP networking technology.

For information about the command line interface (CLI), which can be used to perform many common system- and network-related tasks, see the Command Line Interface Reference Guide for Cisco Unifed Communications Solutions.

Conventions

This document uses the following conventions:

Convention	Description
boldface font	Commands and keywords are in boldface.
italic font	Arguments for which you supply values are in italics.
[   ]	Elements in square brackets are optional.
{ x | y | z }	Alternative keywords are grouped in braces and separated by vertical bars.
[ x | y | z ]	Optional alternative keywords are grouped in brackets and separated by vertical bars.
string	A nonquoted set of characters. Do not use quotation marks around the string or the string will include the quotation marks.
screen font	Terminal sessions and information the system displays are in screen font.
boldface screen font	Information you must enter is in boldface screen font.
italic screen font	Arguments for which you supply values are in italic screen font.
	This pointer highlights an important line of text in an example.
^	The symbol ^ represents the key labeled Control—for example, the key combination ^D in a screen display means hold down the Control key while you press the D key.
<   >	Nonprinting characters, such as passwords, are in angle brackets.

Documentation References to Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition (CMBE)

The name of the product known as Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition in versions 8.0 and earlier has been changed to Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition 5000 in versions 8.5 and later.

In Cisco Unity Connection 10.x documentation set, references to "Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition (CMBE)" and "Cisco Unified CMBE" apply on Business Edition 6000. The references do not apply on any other Business Editions.
