Hardware Supported

The RPS 2300 is compatible with the Catalyst 2970 switches. For a complete list of the Cisco products that are compatible with the RPS 2300, see the Cisco Redundant Power System 2300 Compatibility Matrix (not orderable but available on Cisco.com).

Limitations and Restrictions

You should review this section before you begin working with the RPS 2300. These are known limitations that will not be fixed, and there are no workarounds.

These are the limitations:

The switch might restart when it changes from RPS power to its own internal power. This situation might occur after a power supply on a switch fails, the RPS takes over, and the switch reverts to its own power. We recommend that you plan for this possibility when you restart a switch using its own internal power after using the RPS as backup power.

This problem might occur on any fixed configuration switch except for the Catalyst 3750-E and 3560-E switches.

There is no workaround. (CSCdx81023)

When connecting the RPS cable between the RPS 2300 and the Catalyst 3750-E or 3560E switch or other supported network devices, this communication error might appear:

%PLATFORM_ENV-1-RPS_ACCESS: RPS is not responding

No workaround is required because the problem corrects itself. (CSCsf15170)

An RPS 2300 system might unexpectedly turn on status LEDs when the RPS 2300 itself does not have AC input power applied, if there is a connected switch which does have AC power applied.

In this condition, the following LED operations on the RPS 2300 might be observed:

STDBY/ACTIVE—amber

TEMP—green

FAN—intermittent green or amber

DC—blinking amber

In addition, one or both of the AC power supplies in the RPS 2300 show the following LED operation:

AC OK—off

PS OK—off

There is no workaround. (CSCth48728)
