Important Information About Cisco IOS XE Releases
Starting from November, 2011, the Cisco IOS XE Release 3.4.0S is upgraded to Cisco IOS XE Release 3.5.0S. The Cisco IOS XE Release 3.5.0S has enhanced hardware that includes support for clear-channel E3 ATM on the SPA-2CHT3-CE-ATM on Cisco ASR 1000 Series Router.
Starting from July, 2011, the Cisco IOS XE Release 3.3.0S is upgraded to Cisco IOS XE Release 3.4.0S. The Cisco IOS XE Release 3.4.0S has introduced new hardware which are two new SPAs: 24-Port Channelized T1/E1 ATM CEoP SPA (Circuit Emulation Mode only) and 2-Port Channelized T3/E3 ATM CEoP SPA (ATM Mode only) on Cisco ASR 1000 Series Router.
Starting in March, 2011, the Cisco IOS XE Release 3.2.0S is upgraded to Cisco IOS XE Release 3.3.0S. The Cisco IOS XE Release 3.3.0S has introduced new hardware which are new SPAs: 1-Port 10-Gigabit Ethernet LAN/WAN Phy SPA and 1-Port Channelized OC-3 STM1 ATM CEoP SPA (Circuit Emulation Mode only) on Cisco ASR 1000 Series Router.
Starting in July, 2010, Cisco IOS XE software is moving from the current Cisco IOS XE Release 2.6 to Cisco IOS XE Release 3.1S to introduce new hardware (ASR1000-ESP40, ASR1000-SIP40, Cisco ASR 1013 Router) and an enhanced Cisco IOS 15.0(1) S software that runs on improved componentized code for Cisco IOS features.
The Cisco IOS XE release numbering scheme is modified by the addition of the suffix `S' to the release number to denote the release branch that will differentiate the different products using Cisco IOS XE release.
As pointed out, the underlying Cisco IOS software numbering scheme for the Cisco ASR 1000 Series Routers changes from the current numbering of 12.2(33)XNx to 15.0(1)S. This change will define simpler numbering for new feature releases (the number in parenthesis) and rebuilds. The 15.x(x)Sx releases will continue to be time-based and time-synchronized with Cisco IOS XE releases.
