Release Notes for the Cisco Fourth-Generation T1/E1 Voice and WAN Network Interface Module
June 18, 2013Part Number: OL-29391-01Overview
The Cisco Fourth-Generation T1/E1 Voice and WAN Network Interface Modules (NIMs) are interface cards that are inserted into the NIM slot of the Cisco 4451-X Integrated Services Routers and expand the capabilities of the router to provide data and voice support on T1/E1 trunks. The T1/E1 Voice and WAN Network Interface Module requires an onboard Cisco Packet Voice Digital Signal Processor Module (PVDM4) to support voice.
The Cisco PVDM4 is supported only on the Cisco 4451-X platform and can be plugged in to the single slot on the router motherboard or on the network interface module to provide voice services such as conferenceing and transcoding.
System Requirements
The Cisco Fourth-Generation T1/E1 Voice and WAN Network Interface Modules and Cisco PVDM4s are supported on the Cisco 4451-X Integrated Services Router that runs on Cisco IOS XE Release 3.9S and later.
Open Caveats
This section describes the open caveats. In this section, the following information is provided for each caveat:
•

Open Caveats—Cisco IOS XE Release 3.9S
This section documents the unexpected behavior that may be seen with the Cisco Fourth-Generation T1/E1 Voice and WAN Network Interface Module on the Cisco 4451-X Integrated Services Router with Cisco IOS XE Release 3.9S.
•
CSCuf21611
Symptoms: TDM voice calls are terminated when a T1/E1 NIM on a different slot is restarted or reloaded using OIR commands.
Conditions: Issuing OIR commands on a T1/E1 module in any NIM slot shuts down the voice ports on all other T1/E1 NIMs.
Workaround: There is no workaround.
•
CSCuf34496
Symptoms: The router crashes when a T1/E1 module is started or reloaded with OIR when there are active TDM calls on a different T1/E1 module in the same router.
Conditions: Issuing OIR commands on a T1/E1 module when there are active calls on a different module.
Workaround: There is no workaround.
•
CSCuf38058
Symptoms: NIM-8CE1T1-PRI has intermittent failure when reloading.
Conditions: Occurs when reloading the module.
Workaround: There is no workaround.
•
CSCuf 52990
Symptoms: The network interface module does not respond to a show platform hardware subslot command and does not display accurate information for the show interface command.
Conditions:Occurs when there is data traffic.
Workaround: There is no workaround.
•
CSCuf65800
Symptoms: Ping packet sizes of 955 and 956 bytes fail.
Conditions: Occurs when the cyclic redundancy check (CRC) on the serial interface is set to 16 bits.
Workaround: Configure the CRC to 32 bits.
•
CSCug05013
Symptoms: Bert patterns 2^15 and 2^20-o153 sent between the T1/E1 NIM and a SPA-8XCET1/E1 card fail.
Conditions: Conducting a bert test between the T1/E1 NIM and SPA-8XCET1/E1 card with bert patterns of 2^15 and 2^20-o153.
Workaround: Choose a 2^5 inverted bert pattern on the SPA-8XCET1/E1 card when a bert pattern of 2^5 is chosen on the T1/E1 NIM card. There is no workaround for 2^20-o153 bert patterns.
