Introduction
Cisco Multicast Manager is a web-based network management application that is designed to aid in the monitoring and troubleshooting of multicast networks. Enterprises running video delivery systems or financial market data applications can greatly benefit from deploying Cisco Multicast Manager. Service providers or cable operators also benefit from:

Early warning of problems in multicast networks.
•
In-depth troubleshooting and analysis capabilities.
•
On demand, real-time, and historical reporting capabilities.

Cisco Multicast Manager 3.0.1 provides the following new features:

Changes to the Address Management Interface
CMM 3.0.1 provides the following enhancements to the address management interface:
New Source Description pages —A Source Description—Summary page has been added to the Address Management options. The Source Description—Summary page lists each source IP address and descriptive text that you specify using the Source Description Add/Modify page. The text that you enter to describe the source IP address is displayed on the Multicast Flow Trace page when a trace is run on the multicast group.
New Transport Description pages—Using the Transport Description page, you can launch the Address—Transport Add/Modify page to specify text that describe the transport stream for a specified source IP address and group IP address. The Address—Transport Description page lists the transport descriptions that have been entered. If you specify a transport description, this description is included in the trace summary at the top of the Multicast Flow Trace page and for any events where the transport stream is present.
If no transport description is specified for a transport stream, then CMM retrieves a description from the Group Description Table.

Changes to the Multicast Trace Interface
CMM 3.0.1 contains several enhancements to the Multicast Trace interface:
•
Trace Title—The trace description at the top of the Multicast Trace page now includes the Group Description, the Transport Description (if present), and the Source Description, in the following format:
Group (Group_Description) transport (Transport_Description) Source (Source_Description), for example "Tracing multicast group 211.22.2.0 (Midwest Region) transport (TBS Sports Network) Source (Region One)."

From the Channel Data Table, you can now launch a trace from the Related Groups column.
•
The trace table now includes a Packets per Second (PPS) column (PPS/bits per second (BPS) ) column). The data shown in the PPS/BPS column is also included in the trace portable network graphics (PNG) file for the trace and is updated at each update interval.
•
On the Multicast Trace page, clicking on the video probe icon for a trace that uses the Mixed Signal probe launches the Trap Viewer page, which shows the latest traps.
For traces using probes other than the iVMS, BridgeTech, and Mixed Signal probes, clicking on the video probe icon for the probe launches a video probe application page.

Changes to the Video Probe Page
The pull-down list for the Application Type field on the Add/Rediscover a Video Probe page now contains a new option, Others, which allows you to add video probes for additional vendors other than iVMS, MixedSignal, or BridgeTech.
Changes to the Global Polling Page
The Global Polling page now provides a Forward Mixed Signal Traps check box. Checking this check box enables forwarding of traps from the MixedSignal probe to other applications. The traps are forwarded northbound, but are not displayed on the Trap Viewer page. If you click Save on the page, a message appears instructing you to start the snmptrapd processes to cause the changes in Mixed Signal trap forwarding to take effect.
Changes to the Video Probe Status Page
If a Transport description is provided for a transport stream, the descriptive text for the transport stream is now displayed on the Video Probe Status page, in the Description column.
If no transport description is specified for a transport stream, then CMM retrieves a description from the Group Description Table.
Changes to Video Probe Status—Outage Flow
The Multicast Trace page and the Video Probe Status page in the Diagnostics interface will display outage flows for Bridgetech and iVMS 4.x probes. Outage flows are indicated by a black icon indicating that the DF value equals 5000.
Change to the Tree Changed Report—Router Status
The Tree Changed Report display now indicates whether a router in the trace diagram has been removed or added to the tree. Routers that have been removed are highlighted in red in the baseline trace, and routers that have been added are highlighted in green in the baseline trace.
Quick Trace Selection in the Trace Menu Renamed to Show Groups
In the menu hierarchy for the Trace section under Discovery & Trace, the item formerly called "QuickTrace" has been changed to Show Groups.
Changes to RP Polling
The following changes have been made to RP polling functionality:
•
Addition of the RP Exclude List Option to Polling Configuration and Reports—In the Polling Configuration and Reports display and the Miscellaneous Polling and Reports display, the Rendezvous Point (RP) Accept list is replaced with a selection that allows you to configure an Exclude list. The entries you specify in the Exclude list are excluded from the configuration pages for the events and any reports.
•
Reporting of the ROGUE Stream for RP Configured on the RP Exclude List—The ROGUE stream is now listed in the events for RP that are configured in the RP Exclude list.
Source Specific Multicast (SSM) Polling—Enabling or Disabling Packet Flow at Ingress Routers
On the SSM Polling Configuration page, a Configure threshold at ingress router check box has been added. Checking this check box configures CMM to monitor the packet rate at ingress routers. If you leave the check box unchecked, CMM does not monitor the packet rate at ingress routers.
System Requirements
This section describes the system requirements for Cisco Multicast Manager 3.0.1.
Supported Hardware
Linux
On Linux systems, the following hardware is supported:
•
Dual AMD Opteron 250 processor.
A 2.4-GHz processor is recommended for a large enterprise network (more than 500 devices).
•
2.8-GHz Intel Pentium IV or 2.8-GHz Intel Xeon processor.
•
A Dual 2.8-GHz Intel Pentium IV or a Dual 2.8-GHz Intel Xeon processor is recommended for large enterprise networks (more than 500 devices).
Sun Microsystems Servers
Cisco Multicast Manager supports the following hardware on Sun Microsystems servers:
•
Sun Fire V440: Up to four 1.593-GHz UltraSPARC IIIi processors for a large enterprise network (more than 500 devices).
•
Sun Fire V240: One 1.34-GHz or two 1.5-GHz UltraSPARC processors

Installing the CMM 3.0.1 Patch

Before installing the CMM 3.0.1 patch release. ensure that you have a Linux/Solaris machine with CMM 3.0 installed.
Installation Procedure
Complete these steps to install the CMM 3.0.1 patch release:
Step 1
Complete these steps to download the CMM R3.0.1 Patch—Solaris and Linux Client:
a.
Launch a browser using a Solaris or Linux machine and go to http://software.cisco.com/download/navigator.html?i=rt
Note
A registered Cisco.com username and password are required to access this page.
b.
Download the CMM patch for your operating system to a temporary directory (such as /temp):
–
For a Solaris device, download the cmm301_solaris.tar.gz file.
–
For a Linux device, download the cmm301_linux.tar.gz file.
Step 2
Enter the following commands to extract the file to the temporary directory:
# cd /tmp# gunzip -c cmm301_solaris.tar.gz | tar xvf - (for solaris)# tar -xzvf cmm301_linux.tar.gz (for Linux)
Note
The patch tar files contains the installation script for Linux or Solaris.
The installation script and other files are extracted to the installation folder.
Step 3
Run the installation script (setup.sh) from the extracted folder.
The installation script checks for the presence of CMM 3.0 on that machine and installs accordingly.
Note
The patch tar files contain installation scripts (install_patch.sh), and separate folders for Linux and Solaris with their respective binaries.

Caveats
The following Cisco IOS caveats affect the operation of CMM 3.0.1.
•
CSCsl61414
Description:
The Top Talkers link on the Diagnostics page does not work if the network device supports the Cisco IOS XR release.
Conditions:
The user is trying to execute the Top Talkers link on a device running Cisco IOS XR.
Workaround:
None. This feature was not supported for CMM 2.4. This requires a supporting command set for Cisco IOS XR.

CSCsl66019
Description:
The user fails to run commands on the Cisco IOS XR devices from the Diagnostics page.
Frequency:
Consistent.
Symptoms:
The user fails to run the commands on the Cisco IOS XR devices from the Diagnostics page using SSH mode.
Conditions:
The user is trying to execute the commands on a device running Cisco IOS XR.
Workaround:
Use SSH V1.

CSCsr98713
Description:
Discovery will not complete if NIS+ is enabled.
Frequency:
Consistent.
Symptoms:
Install CMM on a Solaris machine where NIS+ is enabled. The Discovery process in CMM does not complete.
Conditions:
Installing CMM on a Solaris machine where NIS+ is enabled.
Workaround:
Disable any naming service (NIS, NIS+, LDAP) on the gateway machine before installation.

CSCsv88167
Description:
The Administration tab does not appear in the menu when Configuration Management is selected.
Frequency:
Very low.
Symptom:
Install CMM 3.0.1 and launch the application GUI in the Internet Explorer Version 7.0 browser. Click on the Config Management tab after logging into the GUI with administrative level privileges. The Administration tab does not appear.
Conditions:
Launch and run the GUI in any version of Internet Explorer.
Workaround:
Close the browser and log into the application again.

CSCta72909
Description:
MVPN data are not filtered using selected Report Parameters.
Symptom:
This situation occurs when:
1.
In the Report Parameters page for the MPVN Report, Date Parameters are entered and the results are filtered.
2.
The user clicks the Clear All button to clear the filter parameters.
3.
A new a new filter parameter is entered without specifying a date range.
The report is displayed based on the date parameters selected before the filter parameters were cleared. Reports should be filtered correctly based on the report parameters configured
Conditions:
Filter Results by selecting Report parameters.
Workaround:
The user can change the date and time settings in the report parameter as needed.

CSCsy58117
Description:
CMM3.0 does not forward Mixed Signal traps northbound.
Symptom
CMM does not display received Mixed Signal traps and forward them to the northbound application at the same time, as it does for Bridgetech, iVMS, and IP Multicast Heartbeat traps.
CMM should display the trap in trap viewer and at the same time it should forward it northbound.
Condition:
Mixed signal traps are received by CMM.
Workaround:
None.

CSCsx45851
Description:
Cannot display graphical topology for more than 3000 simulated devices.
Frequency:
Consistent.
Symptom:
Install CMM 3.0.1 and launch the topology page for more than 1500 devices. Graphical topology is not displayed. Instead, a message box is displayed, informing you of the topology restriction.
Conditions:
Launch and run the topology.
Workaround:
None.
