Network Systems Abstract Image

Cisco network systems are the foundation for Cisco IT services and applications. Cisco switches, routers, and software work together to enable an integrated network that adapts for current and future business needs. Network systems includes the following topics.

Enterprise Network Architecture
The Cisco IT approach to network architecture encompasses routing and switching along with voice technology, collaborative technology, security technology and data center networking technology to fit together into a single integrated whole. This service-oriented network architecture (SONA) enables advanced IP services while helping to cut costs and reduce network management complexity.

Managed Services
The Cisco IT group strives to make the best use of highly skilled staff by enabling them to focus on strategic programs as much as possible. By outsourcing specific tasks, such as day-to-day network monitoring and management activities, to trusted partners with core competencies, Cisco receives industry-leading service, maintains control of its network, and frees the IT staff to focus on strategic efforts.

Network Management
Cisco network management systems help automate, simplify, and integrate the network to reduce operational costs and improve productivity. The Cisco network management systems provide innovative ways to centrally manage the network to achieve critical functions such as availability, responsiveness, resilience, and security in a consistent way. These network management systems also help reduce the troubleshooting and planning time associated with the introduction of new services such as voice, wireless, and security management.

Optical
Cisco optical solutions provide extremely high-bandwidth transport across Cisco IT's IP network. Cisco IT uses optical products in its enterprise architecture primarily for connectivity to service providers’ SONET networks for long-distance voice, video, and data transport, and for high-speed connectivity across Cisco IT-owned dark fiber in Cisco campuses.

Routing and Switching
Cisco IT supports desktop, lab, data center, and other campus LAN networks, and intranet, extranet, and other WAN networks using Cisco routing and switching platforms as the delivery vehicle for IP-based services. Campus, wide area, and metro-area networks provide a common enterprise-wide infrastructure for transporting voice, video, and data.
