Connected Urban Development Global Conference 2008 took place in Amsterdam, September 2324 at the Passenger Terminal. Cohosted by Cisco and the city of Amsterdam, the conference followed the success of the first Connected Urban Development Global 2008 event—Connecting Cities: Innovation for Sustainability— in San Francisco in February.
The theme of the Amsterdam conference was "Connectivity for Sustainability," a main topic of the Connected Urban Development initiative (CUD). Conference attendees had the opportunity to meet world-class thought leaders and public officials leading the CUD effort, including the mayors of each partner city. Amsterdam, San Francisco, and Seoul are the three founding cities that collaborated on CUD. They were also joined by Lisbon, Madrid, Birmingham, and Hamburg. .
Attendees l also participated in interactive sessions and workshops designed to explore new and innovative ways to develop information and communications technology (ICT) solutions for urban sustainability. Session topics included Connected and Sustainable Mobility, Connected and Sustainable Work, Green IT and Broadband, IT for Community Awareness, and the Strategic Role of Carbon Markets.
