Cisco VPN 3000 Series with 2.5 > software |
Affected products are Cisco VPN 3000 series concentrators shipping with revision 2.5 software or higher that also have serial numbers starting with the three letter code CAM . |
Problem Description
Connectivity will be interrupted if a concentrator that meets the criteria above is downgraded from revision 2.5 vpn3000 software to 2.2.1 or earlier software revisions of vpn3000. The problem was introduced in a diagnostic component of the 2.5 software on units with the above mentioned serial number code and has been documented via Bug ID #CSCds37922.
Problem Symptoms
Customers who receive vpn3000 concentrators with 2.5 or later software installed and downgrade to 2.2.1 or earlier revisions encounter a network connectivity problem to and from the affected vpn3000 concentrator. The problem is the result of a change in the diagnostic level code in the 2.5 software that will cause the 2.2.1 or earlier software versions to incorrectly report MAC addresses on the private, public and external interfaces. The public and external interfaces show MAC addresses of 0. The public and external interface MAC addresses are viewable via console access to the vpn3000 concentrators.
To view public and external interface MAC addresses:
-
Attach a console to the concentrator.
-
Enter the Login/Password.
-
Go to option 1, configuration.
-
Go to option 1, Interface Configuration.
An interface table appears with the interface name, IP address/subnet mask, and MAC address.
Workaround/Solution
Correct affected VPN3000 concentrators by rebooting the concentrator, pressing Control G on the console, and toggling the software image back to the 2.5 or higher version of software.
To toggle the software image:
-
Attach a console to the concentrator.
-
Power cycle the concentrator.
-
After the message "Boot configured XXXMb of RAM.", look for three dots and then hit Ctrl-G (^G).
-
When Boot Menu Options appear, hit "5" to "Toggle active image."
-
Hit "1" to "Continue to load main code."
Customers requiring the 2.2 branch of code can downgrade to version 2.2.2, which is posted on Software Center. Because of this problem, all code versions earlier than 2.2.2 will be removed from the CCO Software Download Center. Cisco Systems strongly recommends that customers deploy the latest software versions available for the vpn3000 related products.
