End of Life for Single-Port Fast Ethernet I/O Controller for the
Cisco uBR7246VXR Universal Broadband Router

Cisco Systems announces an update to the end of life (EOL) of the Single-Port Fast Ethernet I/O Controller (UBR7200-I/O-FE) for the Cisco uBR7246VXR Universal Broadband Router. The last order date—also known as the end-of-sale date for the EOL product—is extended to June 30, 2003. Ordering and pricing will be turned off on this date. The end-of-support date for the EOL product is now June 30, 2008.

Given the end of sale (EOS) of the Cisco uBR7223 Universal Broadband Router, the Single-Port Fast Ethernet I/O Controller (UBR7200-I/O-FE) is no longer orderable on the Cisco uBR7223. This addendum applies to both option and spare versions of the Single-Port Fast Ethernet I/O Controller for the Cisco uBR7246VXR. This announcement does not apply to the Cisco 7200 Series.

The Dual-Port Fast Ethernet I/O Controller (UBR7200-I/O-2FE/E) has dual auto-sensing Fast Ethernet ports, whereas the Single-Port Fast Ethernet I/O Controller (UBR7200-I/O-FE) has only a single Fast Ethernet port. In addition, the boot FLASH memory is 8 MB, compared to 4 MB on the Single-Port Fast Ethernet I/O Controller (UBR7200-I/O-FE). Key benefits of the Dual-Port Fast Ethernet I/O Controller (UBR7200-I/O-2FE/E) include:

  • Increased high-speed LAN connectivity without using a port adapter slot
  • Network management separation from backhaul traffic without using a port adapter
  • Dual-port Fast Ethernet/Ethernet connectivity
  • Increased Cisco uBR7246VXR port density, decreased cost per port
  • Improved price performance

The Cisco uBR7200 NPE-G1 Networking Processor Engine (UBR7200-NPE-G1) is an upcoming addition to the Cisco uBR7246VXRprocessor line. The Cisco uBR7200 NPE-G1 will incorporate all the functionality of an I/O controller (flash memory and auxiliary and console ports), and thus, no longer requires customers to use an I/O controller. This will save customers' money. (Note: an I/O controller can still be used if the customer so desires.)
