Cisco® Data Center Network Manager (DCNM) is a Cisco management solution that increases overall data center infrastructure uptime and reliability, improving business continuity. Focused on supporting efficient operations and management of the data center network, Cisco DCNM provides a robust framework and rich feature set that meets the routing, switching, and storage administration needs of present and future data centers. In particular, Cisco DCNM automates the provisioning process, proactively monitors the SAN and LAN by detecting performance degradation, streamlines the diagnosis of dysfunctional network elements, and secures the network. Offering an exceptional level of visibility and control through a single pane to Cisco Nexus® and Cisco MDS 9000 Family products, Cisco DCNM is the Cisco recommended solution for mission-critical data centers.

New Features

Cisco DCNM 5.1 is a new software release of Cisco DCNM to support new Cisco Nexus family of switches and enhancements in Cisco NX-OS Software Release 5.1 across the Cisco Nexus Family of data center switches.
New features include:

• Comprehensive Cisco FabricPath provisioning and operational monitoring

– One-touch Cisco FabricPatch domain turn up

– Wizard-based control plane and Cisco FabricPatch topology settings

– Cisco FabricPath link-state awareness

– Multiplath traffic distribution: unicast, multicast, and broadcast visualization

– Reachability and latency between source and destination nodes

– Threshold crossing alerts for fabric hotspot identification

• Template management enhancements

– Template based configuration for automating the provisioning process with built-in scheduling and roll back capabilities

– Prebuilt templates for Cisco FabricPath, virtual PortChannels (vPCs), and virtual device contexts (VDCs)

– Capability to create custom templates by using an existing template as a starting point

• Enhancements in managing Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches

– PortChannel, port security, and private VLAN (PVLAN) enhancements on the Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switches

– Topology enhancements to support Layer 2 VSAN overlays

• Alert forwarding as emails and text messages

• Contextual integration and co-residency with Cisco Fabric Manager 5.0

• Cisco DCNM certified on Cisco Nexus 1010 Virtual Services Appliance, providing customers flexibility in deployment options

Upgrade Paths

Customers running prior versions of Cisco DCNM (Releases 4.0 or 5.0.0) with an active Software Application Support plus Upgrades (SASU) contract can upgrade to Cisco DCNM 5.1 at no charge by downloading the software from the Cisco Software Center, accessible at http://www.cisco.com/go/dcnm. The current Cisco DCNM licenses will continue to work with Cisco DCNM 5.1.

Availability

Cisco DCNM 5.1 can be ordered starting October 31, 2010, and will start shipping in November 2010.
